Meet Dr. Rosalva Lagunas-Kuauhtli
Dr. Rosalva Lagunas-Kuauhtli—a Phoenix local, seasoned educator, and dedicated advocate—is running for the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board, Ward 3. As a bilingual, first-generation scholar, Dr. Rosalva doesn't just study educational equity; she lives it.


Early Years
Dr. Rosalva is a testament to the power of resilience and self-determination. The daughter of Indigenous, Mexican immigrants, she grew up in the East Valley, where her family’s journey and work ethic laid the foundation for her future success. A proud alumna of Mesa High School, Dr. Lagunas’s academic roots are firmly planted in her local community. From her early years in the Valley, she demonstrated a remarkable sense of purpose, navigating her educational path with a clear vision of her potential.

Current
Currently serving in a cabinet-level role within a neighboring high school district, Dr. Rosalva brings a comprehensive professional pedigree to the table. Her trajectory—from her experience as a teacher in the classroom and work with the Department of Education to district-level leadership—has equipped her with the unique systemic perspective necessary to lead effectively as a governing board member.
